When I was in high school and corresponded by snail mail with a small group of people with whom I have since completely lost touch, periodically they would write that I should "note" one thing or another. The only one I remember was someone saying that I should "note" her new stationary. In response I would always compose two or three measures on a hastily drawn staff to one side of my paper, and under it state that whatever it was I was supposed to note had been "noted". I've done quite a bit of noting over the past few days. In fact, I've gotten through cleanup on twenty-six of that seventy-two measure song I wrote, comprising seven and a half pages of the rough and three full pages of the final form. I delivered these to the pastor tonight. Hopefully I'll make more progress in the days ahead. He was so pleased he gave me another challenge, as he put it. Every August or September our denomination publishes a list of memory verses, eight or nine to be learned one per month through the year consistent with the theme of the convention, and gives a prize to the church with the largest showing (I don't know how it's measured) learning them all. He has suggested that when this next batch is released, I set them all as choruses so people can sing them. There's sense to that, from one perspective, and it will probably mean at least one more person learning the verses assigned by the denomination: me. We'll have to see how things are looking then. That, though, is not the only accomplishment of note. Last night I finished the Terminator 3 page for the Temporal Anomalies site, and posted it. I'm sure John "A1nut" Cross will have some comments on it, once he realizes it's up, but I've probably stalled him by forwarding a note I received from a reader about the page he wrote for the site, an analysis of Final Countdown, and he will probably want to respond to that. I also posted another entry to the Harry Potter blog, Prophets Don't Know Everything, about Neville Longbottom's potential place in this last story. )Kudos to the first person to correctly identify the fantasy film source of that log entry title.) I've got one more of those in the can, and have started penning a sort of wrap-up entry to summarize the set, partly because blogs are such a terrible format for material that is supposed to have some long-term use, and partly because I thought Arithmancy: A Summonation would be a cool title for it. On the other hand, I've work to do here, so I probably won't get far on that this weekend. No complaints, though. That all represents some decent blogless--er, progress. --M. J. Young
